-
- V.8 is a scheme for optimized connection negotiation. The modems
- exchange compact messages detailing what protocols they can (or are
- willing to) run instead of the traditional "try fast scheme - if no
- response try slower scheme - ..." approach. For V.34, no negotiation
- outside of V.8 is defined.
-
- * Disabling V.8 will also disable V.34.
-
- The V.8 Call Indicate (CI) is a signal sent by the originating modem
- when it places its call. The actual V.8 negotiation is initiated by the
- answering modem, CI serves to inform the *network* of the intended
- parameters of the call. Current phone networks don't use this. On the
- other hand, there are old modems that behave in unexpected ways when
- they're confronted with CI right after answering.
-
- * Disabling V.8 CI doesn't hurt and may improve interoperability. It is
- disabled by default, anyway.
-
- Michael, if you can't see how V.8 could possibly relate to your
- problems, I have to agree. It doesn't.
